🔥The Unplanned Collaboration: A Study in Flame and Ash
This hand-thrown and altered tea cup is a singular expression of a 5 Day journey through a wood-fired Anagama style kiln. More than just a vessel, it is a record of extreme heat, mineral transformation, and the unpredictable nature of traditional ceramic art.

    🔥Artisanal Materiality
The clay body is a custom, high-fire blend featuring inclusions of hand-processed granite. These minerals melt and react during the 5-day firing, creating a rugged, primitive surface that feels geological in the hand. The natural ash glaze and deep iron-rich scorch marks are "painted" by the path of the flame as it moved through the kiln and where the wood ash was deposited.

    🔥The Artist's Hand
The inclusions within the clay bodies I use vary between locally found materials, and select granite counter-top pieces that I process before wedging into the clay. By adding materials that are non-uniform in size, each session of making is a sort of collaborative effort between my intentions and clay itself. With no two pieces ever being the same, each moment of creating leads to new discoveries.

    Frequently Asked Questions

    Custom and personalized orders

I am not taking custom orders at this time.

When do you release new items/collections?

Items are listed regularly, but there is no set schedule. Items are listed as they are curated and become available.

I made a purchase but realized my address is wrong. Can you fix it?

Before you purchase anything you should always double check your information! We are NOT responsible for undelivered packages due to incorrect shipping addresses submitted with order. If the item is returned due to an incorrect address, the buyer will be responsible for shipping costs for the item to be shipped to the correct address.

If there is an issue please message us here ASAP or email me directly at codytamaianceramics@gmail.com. We will do our best to correct any errors and before the item is shipped out.

Will you have previews of your work before the restock?

We do our best to post new pieces to social media, so please follow Cody Tamaian on Instagram and Facebook to see any updated regarding new pieces and firing schedules.

    Are your glazes food safe?

Yes, though given the rough nature of my work it is best to be selective with what goes on or inside a specific piece. If a tea cup has a small crater then tea, alcohol, or something of a similar consistency would be fine, but a stew would probably be a poor choice.

    Are your mugs/cups/bowls microwave safe?

They have not been tested for microwave use so please err on the side of caution and do not place them in the microwave.

    Care instructions

Washing by hand is recommended, not tested for use in a microwave or oven. Please be mindful while handling - due to the nature of the clay body used, there will be minor holes, cracks, and rough/sharp areas. The textures and variance are what I strive for in my work, and I ask that they be embraced with an open and inquisitive mind.

    Discounted/ On Sale / Seconds

I do not discount my fine art items, nor do I sell seconds. Sales or discounts on my functional ware may become available when purchasing multiple items in the future.

    Exchanges/ Returns

I do accept returns, but the buyer is responsible for shipping. If the work is returned damaged due to poor packaging on the buyers part, the cost will not be refunded.

Please see our full Returns and Exchanges policy page for more information.
